South West: Return To Normalcy Keeps Improving

After chairing a Regional Security and Administrative Coordination Meeting in Mamfe recently, Bernard Okalia Bilai said the situation is under control.

Top administration of the South West Region have concluded a two-day Regional Security and Coordination Meeting (June 11 and 12, 2026) for the first semester in Mamfe, chief town of Manyu Division. With the security aspect which was in camera, each of the six Senior Divisional Officers of the six administrative divisions reviewed the security situation in their administrative units. Heads of Regional Police, National Gendarmerie, infantry, and other secret services made presentations on the security situation of the region in their respective spheres. It was followed by strategic discussions and security assessments. South West Regional Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai, emerged from the meeting very upbeat. He told the press firmly that the security situation is fully under control. He pointed out that economic activities have resumed despite a drop in cocoa prices in the international market and called on cocoa farmers to remain hopeful amidst the global price fall. The Governor said the population realised that they were deceived in seeking a breakaway from the State which had led to a security stalemate in the North West and South West Regions for close to 10 years now and had destroyed economic and social life of the two regions. Now, together with their traditional rulers and religious authorities, the population is collaborating with forces of law and order to eradicate the few remaining terrorists. Also, the senior administrator appealed to families of those whose children are still carrying arms to cause them to drop them and return home. “We need these compatriots to be part of the construction of this country. The future of this region is bright. So, we must remain focus, mobilized and committed in developing our beautiful region,” he said.
