A delegation from Horizon Cameroun recently met in Yaounde with executives of Cameroon Telecommunications, CAMTEL.
Cameroon Telecommunications, CAMTEL, the nation’s incumbent telecom operator, is advancing its digital modernization roadmap following a pivotal meeting with an international delegation. Which aimed at integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cutting-edge tech infrastructure nationwide.
Digital Transformation
The recent high-level discussions brought together CAMTEL executives and leadership from the Canada-Africa Chamber of Commerce, CCCA. Alongside tech spearheads from the Horizon Cameroun initiative and FAZ Vision AI. The roundtable focused on accelerating Cameroon's digital transition by improving user experience, strengthening corporate competitiveness, and engineering local, value-added digital services.
Boosting Infrastructure, Smart Services
As the backbone of Cameroon’s telecom infrastructure, CAMTEL’s role was heavily emphasized as central to driving national digital inclusivity. Representatives from FAZ Vision AI showcased their expertise in corporate automation and AI. Sparking deep discussions on how CAMTEL can integrate smarter systems to optimize public utilities, modernise administrative networks, and scale connectivity.
The parties discussed moving beyond traditional telecom offerings. Pivoting instead toward robust digital frameworks capable of supporting next-generation platforms for both local citizens and the corporate private sector.
AI, Digital Transformation Academy
A landmark feature of the proposed roadmap is the potential launch of an Academy of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation. The facility would function as a central training hub designed to arm public administrators, budding entrepreneurs, and Cameroonian youth with competitive skills in emerging tech.
Furthermore, the delegation detailed plans for upcoming tech pilot projects. These initiatives aim to provide localized, real-world demonstrations of how automated workflows and AI analytics can resolve operational bottlenecks across crucial Cameroonian economic sectors.
Activating Transatlantic Networks
The planned framework heavily leverages the transfer of elite competencies from the global Cameroonian diaspora back to the local market. Acting as a strategic bridge, Horizon Cameroun will focus on aggregating this international talent, while the Canada-Africa Chamber of Commerce coordinates institutional backing from university labs and private investors based in Canada.
Next Steps
The productive session concluded with a mutual agreement to formalize these exploratory pathways. A detailed strategic and technical proposal is currently being drafted for review by CAMTEL's management to isolate priority pilots.
