2026 GCE Examinations: Marking Exercise Underway

T he marking of scripts for the 2026 General Certificate of Educa­ tion (GCE) examina­ tions is ongoing in Buea, with over 10,300 examiners from across the country’s ten re­ gions evaluating over one mil­ lion scripts. The examiners, made up of Assessors, Chief Examiners, Assistant Chief Examiners, Lead Examiners and Assistant Examiners, are working in more than a dozen marking centres to ensure the timely and credible release of examination results. Launching the exercise on July 22, at Baptist High School, Buea, Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai urged the examiners to remain objective, professional and committed throughout the marking process, stressing that the credibility of the GCE examinations depends on the integrity and rigour of those entrusted with assessing can­ didates’ scripts. ‘‘They should carry out the exercise with complete ob­ jectivity. They should be com­ mitted to the task because it is a delicate one. Our children are the Cameroon of tomor­ row,’’ Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai said. He also reminded the examiners of examination malpractices recorded during the written phase, some of which led to the postpone­ ment of some examination sessions.
