U.S-Cameroon Economic and Commercial Dialogue: Investment Discussions Hold Today

The one-day strategic bilateral forum to hold this August 27, in Yaounde, would foreground measures to boost business climate and expand trade development between both countries.

I n view of today’s maiden edition of the U.S-Cameroon Economic and commercial Dialogue, the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey, granted an audience to the United State of America’s (U.S.A.) interim Charge d'Affaires to Cameroon, John G. Robinson and the U.S.A Deputy Assistant Secre­ tary of State, Sarah Troutman, yes­ terday August 26, 2026. Hosted by the Government of Ca­ meroon, the maiden edition of the annual bilateral dialogue between both countries that opens today August 27, 2026 in Yaounde, seeks to improve the business climate; expand two-way trade; and unlock new investment opportunities. Ac­ cording to Sarah Troutman, the ses­ sion unites both U.S.A and Cameroon government’s officials as well as private sector leaders to strengthen bilateral economic partnership of both countries. She added that the solutions oriented dialogue will es­ tablish a new mechanism to deepen economic corporation and turn sha­ red ambition into concrete oppor­ tunities and measurable results for the duo. Aligned with Cameroon’s national development strategy (SND30), John G. Robinson unders­ cored that through the dialogue, the U.S.A aims to promote more trade, investment, and technology transfers, with a focus on agricul­ ture, energy, mining, technology, and transportation. “The United States wants to create more bridges between businesses in both coun­ tries and facilitate investment. The economic dialogue is intended to translate this focus into business opportunities,” he said. The U.S. and Cameroon have since the signing of the Bilateral Invest­ ment Treaty (BIT) in 1986 that came into force in 1989 shared an interdependent commercial rela­ tionship marked by amicable imports and exports. According reports from the Office of the Unites States’ Trade Representative, U.S. goods and services highlighting both ex­ ports and imports trade with Ca­ meroon totalled an estimated over FCFA 395 billion in 2025, up 1.7 per cent from 2024.
