South West: Humanitarian Outreach Reliefs Vulnerable Communities

Tiko (Fako) - Vulnerable persons and community groups in Tiko Sub­ division, South West Region, have received food items and other basic necessities as part of a humanitarian outreach aimed at promoting solida­ rity and social inclusion. The exercise covered communities and orphanages in Tiko, Mutengene and Ombe. Be­ neficiaries received bags of rice, salt, sugar, kettles and other essential items to assist them in meeting some of their daily needs. Muslim commu­ nities in Tiko and Mutengene were also among the beneficiaries. At the end of the exercise, more than seven orphanages and 12 com­ munities across the Subdivision were expected to benefit from the initia­ tive. The humanitarian action was spearheaded by Dr. Divine Mbamome Nkendong as part of the second edi­ tion of a wider community outreach programme. According to the orga­ nisers, the objective is to reach dif­ ferent groups within the municipality, especially vulnerable children, families and communities in need of assis­ tance. The distribution of food items comes after a series of activities or­ ganised within the same initiative. These include the Champion of Cham­ pions football and handball tourna­ ments, which brought together young people through sports. The pro­ gramme also supported more than 74 commercial motorbike riders in Tiko Municipality to obtain driving licences.
