Tiko: Canoe Accident Leaves Five Dead

Five persons are reported dead and seven others injured following a boat accident that occurred Tuesday night in Mudeka, Tiko subdivision, Fako Division of the South West Region. According to a communique issued by the Senior Divisional Of­ ficer of Fako, Viang Mekala, the accident involved a motorized canoe carrying members of a church who were travelling for prayers to a place located on an island off the Atlantic Ocean. The said ves­ sel, the communique adds, which was apparently old and in poor condition, capsized shortly after leaving the shore. The passengers on board, all students from certain education institutions in Buea drowned. Five of the passengers, four girls and one boy, died and their remains were retrieved and taken to the Tiko District Hospital mortuary.
