Sustainable Development Goals:Cameroon Validates Contextualisation Plan
Government says it remains resolute to achieving the goals by 2030
Cameroon has endorsed a national plan for the contextualization and prioritisation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), leaving the country set for the implementation process. The plan was validated in Yaounde, Monday September 18, 2017, during a strategic workshop. On hand was the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations Systems, United Nations Resident Representative and Humanitarian Coordinator in Cameroon, Allegra Maria Del Pilar Baiocchi. According to the Resident Coordinator of the UN Systems, the putting in place of the plan which contains objectives and targets is an important aspect for Cameroon as the SDGs have been adapted to national realities.
For his part, the Secretary General in the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Jean Tchoffo said “the 2030 development agenda represents an opportunity, serving as a catalyst for the country’s ambition to be emergent by 2035.” Despite the fact that Cameroon didn’t attain half of the Millennium Development Goals, Jean Tchoffo gave assurances that concerning the implementation of the SDGs in the country, the most important thing is the commitment of higher authority. “We are now implementing a programme with the IMF and donors that will help us to achieve these goals.
