External Threats: Boko Haram, Pirate Attacks Reduced Drastically

The New Deal Government has shown bravery in the face of external attacks from the terrorist group Boko Haram, Pirates at Sea and rebel attacks in the East Region.
Cameroon under the stewardship of President Paul Biya whose 35th anniversary of accession to power is celebrated this Monday, November 6, 2017, has with bravery faced key external threats from terrorists and rebels both in the sea and on land.
History will forever have it that the Nigerian-born terrorist sect Boko Haram launched incursions and attacks in Cameroon from 2014 under the reign of President Paul Biya. Under his diligence, as Commander-in-Chief of the Arm forces, Cameroon’s defence and security forces have proven their dexterity in tackling the terrorists, reducing their threat from the initial convention warfare to pockets of asymmetric attacks by Boko Haram suicide bombers.
Cameroon is a frontline member of the Multinational Joint Task Force fighting Boko Haram in the Lake Chad zone. Communication Minister who doubles as government’s spokesperson, Issa Tchiroma Bakary in a press conference in Yaounde on January 10, 2017 cited the achievements of Cameroon’s defence forces in one of the special operations carried out on December 19, 2016 in the locality of Ngoshe and its surroundings in the Nigerian territory. He said, “This ongoing major offensive has enabled the forces of the coalition led by the Cameroonian forces to occupy this part of Nigerian territory.”
The operation, just like others led to the dismantling of the logistic bases of the Boko Haram terrorists through the destruction of manufacturing units of explosive devices, neutralization of explosive devices, dismantling training camps, killing of Boko Haram fighters and freeing of hostages.
Life is gradually returning to normal in the three affected Divisions of the Far North Region of Cameroon. Hundreds of ex-fighters are surrendering to Cameroon’s defence and security forces, more hostages continue to be freed, and agricultural and educational activities are gradually picking up.
