Kumbo: When A President Recognises Teachers!

A recent academic discourse dealt with the role of teachers in shaping the destinies of children.
Although the 2016 World Teachers’ Day is past, teachers in Kumbo, Bui Division of the North West Region, are yet to forget that their profession was once acknowledged by Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the USA.
“One of the glaring examples in history remains that of US President, Abraham Lincoln, who recognised the role of a teacher in moulding his son,” wrote Lionel Maishu Malung in an academic lecture presented at the celebration of Teachers’ Day in Kumbo. Malung, who is a high school teacher and service head in the Divisional Delegation of Secondary Education, Bui, opined that if a man of this calibre could recognise the role of a teacher in shaping the destiny of his son, then it goes without saying that quality teaching can help Cameroon emerge economically.
Referring to the theme of the celebration, “Valuing Teachers and Improving Their Status For An Emergent Cameroon,” Lionel Maishu Malung insisted that a good teacher should be honest, shun cheating and lead by example. He urged society to give teachers their rightful place, considering that teaching is the gateway to all professions. “Cameroon cannot emerge without enough value being added to teachers.
