Combating Violent Extremism : Stakeholders Chat Action Plan

This was during the first session of the committee for the coordination of Commonwealth activities on preventing and countering violent extremism in Cameroon.

Within the framework of stamping out violent extremism in the country, a phenomenon which threatens peace and security, members of the interministerial committee for the coordination of Commonwealth activities on preventing and countering violent extremism in Cameroon, met at the Ministry of External Relations on November 17, 2020 to discuss and adopt an action plan. The first session of the Committee was presided at by the Minister Delegate at the Ministry of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Commonwealth, Felix Mbayu, who is the Chairperson of the said Committee. 
In his opening remark, Minister Mbayu said the mission of the Committee is to build resilient mechanisms to counter the plague in vulnerable communities. The Committee, he noted, would review, strengthen activities as well as carryout research on preventing and countering violent extremism in Cameroon. “Violent extremism represents a serious impediment to peace and security as it undermines development achieved over the years. As you would have noticed, violent extremism has become a major problem for all countries and Cameroon is not different from all the others. It is in this connection that we have been working with the Commonwealth which has established a unit to have member countries develop institutional and human capacity to combat this dangerous tendency in most of our societies,” he stated.
