Promotion Of Bilingualism : Practical Way Of Consolidating Living Together

Government has stepped up the promotion of bilingualism which is intended to facilitate the living together of the citizens.

The Ministries of Basic Education and Secondary Education since Monday, January 31, 2022 are celebrating the National Bilingualism Week for 2022. The President of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism, Peter Mafany Musonge in a press release announcing  the celebration of the National Bilingualism Week that will end tomorrow, Friday, February 4, 2022 urged “all other private and public entities which on, a daily basis, celebrate and promote bilingualism, a real leaven of National Unity, the bedrock of National Cohesion and the cement of Living Together  to redouble their efforts in usefully contributing to the implementing the National Policy on the Promotion of Official Languages in Cameroon.”
The implementation of effective practice of English and French which are the two official languages in Cameroon, enshrined in the Constitution of 1996 with equal status is a perfect way of enabling Cameroonians to interrelate, share their joys and worries and live together without any complex. Government in presidential decree No.2017/013 of 23rd January 2017 created the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism as an advisory body with legal personality and financial autonomy one of whose missions is to prepare and submit draft instruments on bilingualism, multiculturalism and togetherness to the President of the Republic. For this year 2022, the Commission among other actions, plans to protect and promote of multiculturalism and living together.
