“I Have No Doubt That SDF Will Have Huge Electoral Breakthrough”

Senator Jean Tsomelou, Secretary General of the Social Democratic Front (SDF).
The party launched the operation to renew the executive bureaus of its basic organs since late 2021. How far has the operation gone?
The operation is going fairly well. As we speak, the National Executive Committee (NEC) teams deployed to the field, together with the different Regional Executive structures, have already set up grassroots commissions which are on the field doing reorganisation in the Party Wards and this will culminate with Regional Conferences and subsequently the National Convention next year.
What has been the major obstacles and how have you been surmounting them?
The major obstacle has been lack of financial resources. It is a very expensive exercise and we are stretching ourselves almost to breaking point. Another difficulty has to do with security challenges in the South West and North West Regions where separatist fighters say they have banned political parties in the area. They often waylay our members and supporters who make any bold step to animate political activities in the two Regions. I have to add that another difficulty we are facing is the tendency for some of our comrades to try to thwart the party constitution for their selfish ambitions. We are taking care of that.
Are you convinced that after the renewal operation that will culminate with the elective national convention in 2023, the SDF will become stronger and regain its past political glory?
I am very convinced about that going by the enthusiasm and euphoria on the ground. This is reflected in the number of new members we receive everyday. You know, the people are massively buying our option of federalism which they have realised is the only way to bring lasting peace, national uni...
