New National Assembly Building : PM, House Speakers Inspect Construction Works

Both personalities who were at the site on July 4, 2022 expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded thus far.
The Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute at the invitation of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril on July 4, 2022 visited the construction site for the new permanent building of the National Assembly of Cameroon. Both the Prime Minister and House Speaker expressed satisfaction as concerns the progress of the work and thanked the Chinese government for funding such a project in the country. Accompanied by the Ministers of External Relations, Finance, Economy, Planning and Regional Development and the Chinese Ambassador to Cameroon, the personalities were briefed on what has been done in the last 22 months and what is left till the project is delivered in May 2024.
Explaining the state of advancement, the President of the Follow-up Committee, Hon. Théodore Datouo, who is equally one of the Deputy Speakers at the National Assembly said the project consists constructing a hemicycle and annex buildings. The hemicycle, he stated, is already at a 60 per cent completion rate with the 40 per cent left comprising technical installation and the putting in place of necessary equipment. The building has inbuilt red tubes for the circulation of water and gas in case of an incident. The building also contains four committee rooms and offices for the House Speaker, Presidency of the Republic and members of government. The underground floor has a dispensary and a 2,000 metres square space for the preservation of parliamentary archives.
One of the annex buildings is equally at a 60 per cent rate of completion and will contend a banquet hall.
