Humanitarian Assistance : Cameroon’s Efforts Appreciated

Information published by the UN Humanitarian Coordinator notes that assistance has been provided to 41 per cent of the 2.6 million most vulnerable people targeted as of June 2022.
Strides made by the government of Cameroon in providing humanitarian assistance to internally displaced persons and refugees in the country have been appreciated by the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for Cameroon, Matthias Naab, who is also the Resident Coordinator of the UN Systems in Cameroon. A press release issued by the UN official on August 19, 2022, a day commemorated as the World Humanitarian Day, also reiterates the UN’s willingness and availability to working with the government in handling humanitarian crisis.
The release states that nine out of ten regions in Cameroon continue to be impacted by three, protracted, humanitarian crises caused by continuous violence in the Lake Chad Basin, insecurity in the North West and South West Regions, and the presence of over 325,000 refugees from the Central African Republic (CAR) in the East Region. Cameroon, through the Ministry of Territorial Administration and the United Nations, as well as other stakeholders constantly mobilise resources to provide basic needs to internally displaced persons and refugees. “The UN will continue collaborating closely with the government of Cameroon to support efforts to improving the living conditions of the most vulnerable people of this beautiful country, so as to Leave No One Behind,” partly states the release.
During a sports walk organised by the United Nations to commemorate the day, Matthias Naab said in 2022, some 3.9 million people in Cameroon are in need of humanitarian assistance and as of June 2022, they (referring to government and the UN) have reached 41 per cent of the 2.6 million most vulnerable people targeted. “Humanitarian work may seem complex or far away for most.
