World Peace Day : Civil Society Brainstorms

This year’s day will be celebrated on the theme “End Racism”.

Prelude to the International Day for Peace to be celebrated on September 21, some civil society organisations based in Douala have been meeting to sensitize the population on the importance of peace. The meeting that brought together civil society organizations including Peace Watch, Bringing Hearts Together amongst others was aimed at coming out on better ways on how to carry out sensitization campaign to push the peace agenda. While meeting in Bonaberi Douala on Thursday, September 15, the civil society members agreed that without peace, it will not be possible to achieve the levels of trust, cooperation and inclusiveness needed for societies to be resilient to shocks, manage disputes and adapt to changes in their environments reasons why they planned to mobilize and sensitize the population of Douala to go for peaceful options when it comes to dispute.
According to the coordinator of Peace Watch Johnson Ebigwe it was important for the population to understand that peace is the only way out at the moment as violence has never been a solution to any problem. He added that the International Day of Peace (or World Peace Day) celebrated annually on September 21 is devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.
