MINREX : New Procedure On Authenticating Documents

A new method for authenticating documents at the Ministry of External Relations has been instituted. The public was informed of this move through a press release signed by the Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Commonwealth, Felix Mbayu on December 30, 2022. The new procedure took effect from January 1, 2023. The said procedure, the release explained, comes on the heels of digitising techniques and the setting up of a computer system dubbed “Legalis”, which aims at affixing a secured sticker to the document to be authenticated. “The main objectives of this measure are, inter alia, to secure State documents submitted by applicants, and make them more genuine and credible to our foreign partners, as well as to speed up the processing of the said documents,” highlights the document. As a result, applicants are presented with a website (www.minrexeservice.com/legalis) to log onto and follow three outlined steps. 
The first phase contains the online registration process which requires the applicant to provide necessary information after clicking on the “Start New Application” tab in the “Legalisation of Documents” section. Applicant’s required information is expected to be provided on the application form in three stages and that includes identification of the user, documents to be legalised and booking of an appointment to submit the file need for authenticating. The online portal enables the applicant to print out a summary application generated at the end of the process.
