Improving Access To Drinking Water : CAMWATER, Councils Partner For Better Services

A partnership framework was to this effect signed in Yaounde on January 10, 2023.

In an effort to address the problem of access to portable water throughout the country, the United Councils and Cities of Cameroon (UCCC) and the Cameroon Water Utilities Corporation (CAMWATER), have signed a partnership agreement. The framework accord signed on January 10, 2023 seeks to mobilise human, financial and material resources for the realisation of Drinking Water Supply Systems (DWSS) and liquid sanitation in local and City Councils of Cameroon, as a mechanism of bringing a solution to the crucial problem and improve the living conditions of the population. The General Manager of CAMWATER, Blaise Moussa signed for his institution while the National President of UCCC, Augustin Tamba, penned for decentralised elected officials. 
Concept notes of the framework agreement which has a renewable duration of three years state that the parties intend to cooperate in capacity building of local elected officials in the field of drinking water supply and technical assistance to the contracting authority through the planning of water supply and sanitation projects. The exchange of information particularly in the framework of the prices relating to the realisation of DWSS, the procedures of intervention on portable water supply networks, the cartography of drinking water resources in Councils and cities of Cameroon, as well as the regular maintenance of fire hydrants in regional and local institutions are other components of the partnership accord.
