Submitting Candidacy Files : Rushing To Meet Deadline

Political parties interested in participating in the Senatorial election must submit their files latest tomorrow January 28, 2023 by midnight.

The deadline for the submission of nomination papers for the March 12, 2023 senatorial polls is tomorrow January 28, 2023. This is in accordance with the provisions of Section 164(1) which states that candidates shall within 15 days from the convening of the electorate, be made out in nomination papers in triplicate, bearing the legalised signature of candidates. The electorate was convened on January 13, 2023, making January 28,2023 the stipulated deadline.
With the deadline being this close, political parties are undergoing some degree of pressure to submit their files. They are finalising various lists to be submitted at Elections Cameroon, the elections management body of the country.
At the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), the Central Committee of the party has already received various lists from the ten different regions of the country. The Committee led by the Secretary General, began the examination of the numerous lists yesterday January 26, 2023 and are expected to come to a conclusion before the stipulated deadline. One thing is certain, only a single list of seven alternate candidates and their substantive candidates will be presented per region. Otherwise, ELECAM will reject the double submission of files.
For the National Union for Democracy and Progress (NUDP), lists have already been constituted in the North, Far North and Adamawa Regions. Party officials had slated today Friday January 27, 2023 to conclude with the East Region. NUDP is the only opposition party that has a Regional President at the Adamawa Regional Council. As a result, they are very confident in participating in the region to gain more space in the political landscape of the country. The National President of the party is supervising operations to ensure that every list to be submitted at Elections Cameroon meets up with the legal requirements.
