North West Region : Hitch-free Senatorial Election

There was a massive turnout of voters despite attempts to intimidate them.

Voting took place hitch-free all over the North West Region on Sunday March 12, 2023 for the Senatorial election as according to the Governor, no incident was recorded in the entire region. There was fear of disruption of the election as separatist fighters had declared no election will take place in the region. On the contrary, there was a massive mobilisation of Regional and Municipal Councillors who constitute the electoral college as even before midday; over 50 per cent of them had cast their votes. 
According to the North West Regional Delegate for ELECAM, Zofoa Njoya, there were 1,127 voters spread over 19 polling stations in all the seven Divisions of the region; four in Mezam, two in Boyo, Bui three, Donga Mantung three, Momo three, Menchum two and Ngoketungia two. He also said voting was smooth but for a few cases of electors who turned up without legalized proxy letters as recommended by law. By 1:30 pm, he reaffirmed that everything was under control, stating that there was no negative incident.
