CEMAC Heads of State Conference : Ministers Prepare Groundwork

Ahead of the 15th Ordinary Session tomorrow Friday March 17, 2023, Ministers of the sub region met yesterday March 15, 2023 to brainstorm on issues of common interest.
Various Ministers in charge of financial, economic and integration issues of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC), met yesterday March 15, 2023 in Yaounde, as part of the 39th ordinary session of their Council, under the chairmanship of Alamine Ousmane Mey, Cameroon’s Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, and sitting President of the Council. Deliberations took place in the presence of the Prime Minister of the Central African Republic, Félix Moloua, President of the CEMAC Commission, Prof. Daniel Ona Ondo, President of the Development Bank of Central Africa Dieudonné Evou Mekou, and the Governor of BEAC, Abbas Mahamat Tolli.
At the opening of the work, it was recalled that this session is of a special nature because it is in preparation to the 15th Ordinary Session of CEMAC Heads of State Conference which holds tomorrow March 17, 2023 in Yaounde. Documents thus examined by the Ministers will be subjected for the consideration of the various Heads of State. Some of the documents examined include the principle of rotation at the helm of CEMAC institutions which according to some should be reformed mechanisms for financing the regional economic community through the community’s integration tax, whose effective mobilisation is still lacking, and the merging of the two regional economic communities (CEMAC and ECCAS) into one and make the Central African region stronger and more integrated.
For the President of the Council of Ministers, as well as the President of the Commission, the meeting is essential because the resolutions taken are those which should enable the Heads of State, once in their high-level meeting, to take...
