Commonwealth Enterprise, Investment Council : Cameroon, Gabon Regional Hub Launched

The Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) now has a regional hub for Cameroon and Gabon. Hosted by Cameroon who joined the institution some five years ago, the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute presided at the official launching ceremony on April 11, 2023 in Yaounde, in the presence of members of government, the diplomatic corps, administrative officials and businessmen. 
The Prime Minister in his inaugural statement said creating a hub in Cameroon marks a milestone on the evolution of Cameroon in the Commonwealth. He added that Cameroon, just like other countries, is affected by the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the outbreak of the Russian-Ukraine war and the effects of climate change, reason institutional mechanisms such as the putting in place of the trade hub is necessary to boost recovery of the economy. Trade, the Prime Minister stated, occupies fundamental space in enhancing national development and the regional centre will help Cameroon to diversify its trade partners and open up new markets. The Head of Government added that government has made strides in ensuring standards in doing business and promoting the Made-in-Cameroon brand, something which the trade hub will spur up. Joseph Dion Ngute added that the centre will open pathways to investment opportunities, encourage business prospects, start-ups and partnerships. 
For the Chairman of CWEIC, Lord Jonathan Peter Marland, Cameroon accepting to host the regional hub demonstrates the country’s desire and ambitions towards broadening trade and investment. “We will support in our own small way to creating wealth and prosperity for our member countries,” he stated.
