The 17-man bureau of four different political parties was elected during a plenary sitting of April 19, 2023
The bureau of the Senate has been elected. It consists of 17 persons (amongst whom are four women) from four different political parties. The bureau was elected during a plenary sitting of April 19, 2023 in the presence of the Minister Delegate to the Presidency in charge of relations with the Assemblies, Bolvine Wakata. The bureau takes over from the provisional bureau that was chaired by the eldest member of the Senate, René Ze Nguele. The 17- man bureau comprises a President, a Senior Vice President, four Vice Presidents, three Questors and eight Secretaries. The election began with the position of President of the Senate. The candidate of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) was proposed by the Chief Whip of the party in the House, Senator Oyono Zang Calvin. For the position, Marcel Niat Njifenji was voted with 97 votes out of the 98 persons that voted. There was a blank ballot. The eldest member of the Senate supervised the voting of the Senate President and after the voting exercise and in accordance with Article 15(3) of the Standing Orders of the House, the elected President chaired the voting of the other members of the bureau. Taking the stage, he made an appreciation speech in which he said “Dear colleagues, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the confidence you have bestowed on me,” he stated. The Senate President also expressed appreciation to the National Chairman of the party, Paul Biya, for validating his candidature and to the Almighty God for protection.
