Working Mechanisms : Several Strategies Put In Place

As the institution responsible for taking necessary steps to de-radicalise ex-fighters and facilitate their reintegration into the society, the National Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration Committee (NDDRC) has various strategies used to ensure a return to peace in the North West, South West and Far North Regions through the laying down of arms by ex-fighters. Created in 2018, the three Centres of the institution in Bamenda, Buea and Mora have received an increasing number of ex-fighters as the days go by, indicative enough that the strategies put in place are yielding a positive outcome. 
Firstly, there is the sensitisation strategy. Formal and informal meeting styles, in what they term a community-focused approach, is being embarked on by officials of the structure. That is, communities identified with a high violence rate are visited and peace explained to them. How to drop arms, why dropping these arms in unlawful hands, how ex-fighters are being taken care of in the various Centres and their reintegration process in the society is explained in details to the population. In addition, the Committee partners with international organisations, particularly the United Nations and other non-governmental organisations to exchange notes and improve the awareness-raising process in communities. Traditional rulers, decentralised local authorities, Members of Parliament, and community leaders, are also used to talk to their people. Their proximity with the population is used as a plus to encourage those living in the bushes under not-too-good hygienic and other health conditions to listen to the peace call of the Head of State by dropping their arms.
