Basic Education: Inculcating Science Culture In Kids

Why integrate the science and technology awareness in little children? What are the didactic tools to be developed for professionals and learners in the methodological guide on sciences and technologies in the early childhood? These and many more, are the questions educational experts from Africa are seeking answers to in Yaounde. This is within a workshop organised by UNESCO International Bureau of Education to develop a methodological guide on Sciences and Technologies awareness in the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) curricula. The workshop which began on July 10, 2023 was opened by the Secretary General of the National Commission for UNESCO, Dr Abdoul Aziz Yaouba. On behalf of the Minister of Basic Education, Abdoul Aziz Yaouba said having endorsed Sustainable Development Goal, number 4 to ensure "quality, equitable and inclusive education for all, and opportunities for lifelong learning", of which the 2018 curricular reform is one of the components of its concrete implementation, the current UNESCO workshop comes at the right time to reinforce the government’s efforts in this perspective. With the National Development Strategy currently being implemented, as far as the "human development" component is concerned, Abdoul Aziz says the current workshop is a crucial and decisive contribution.
