Sudan : Pro-Democracy Leaders Discuss Peace

On Tuesday July 25, 2023, the different stakeholders called for an end to the conflict and rejected the presence of multiple armies in the country.
Plans to bring peace to Sudan are afoot following the holding of a meeting in Cairo (Egypt) by pro-democracy leaders. During the meeting, the bloc known as the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC), expressed their desire to see that a solution to end the conflict would lead to the creation of a “Sudanese State free from wars and the building of an armed forces that serve the Sudanese people based on principles and values”. Speaking to the press after the two-day meeting, Yasir Arman, executive member of the bloc said, “We are against the multiple arms group, but not against the deployment of foreign forces from East Africa (IGAD) and the international community into the country to monitor any ceasefire that is aimed at putting an end to the fighting”.
In a statement made public, the FFC emphasized the need to initiate a political process that would immediately end the ongoing hostilities. The coalition stated that the inclusive political process would involve active participation from Sudanese civil forces supporting an end to the war and a transition to civil democracy. They explicitly excluded the National Congress Party (NCP) of the former regime and its affiliated groups from the process, accusing them of obstructing democratic transition and instigating the war. The FFC underscored the significance of achieving unity among civil democratic forces against the war and commended the efforts already made to construct a civil front advocating peace and restoring democracy.
