In a NEC meeting that held on Saturday September 9, 2023, members also examined the funeral of the late National Chairman.
The elective convention of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) shall hold on October 28 and 29, 2023 in Yaounde. The information was revealed by the committee charged with the organisation of the convention during a National Executive Committee Meeting that held on September 9, 2023 in Yaounde. It was chaired by the First Vice President of the party, Hon. Joshua Osih. The party’s convention was initially scheduled to take place last July 29, but the dead of the National Chairman, John Fru Ndi obliged a postponement to plan his funeral.
“As you know, we are moving towards the elective convention. On September 8, 2023, we relaunched the reorganisation of our basic party structures and we received reports from the various reorganising committees, as well as a report from the committee charged with the organisation of the convention. They have told us that our convention will hold on the 28 and 29 of October 2023, here in Yaounde,” Joshua Osih told the press. The change in date unfortunately affected the initial venue, which was the Yaounde Conference Centre. The Centre will be occupied on the new date of the convention. As such, the committee charged with the organisation of the convention shall as from today Monday September 11, 2023 visit and analyse other possible venues and pick one from the options.
John Fru Ndi’s Funeral Evaluated
As the first meeting since the funeral of the National Chairman that held on July 29, the most important point, Joshua Osih said, was to discuss the way it went. “Nobody has ever buried a National Chairman before and it was an uphill task for us. We had the help of the family and it was a major accomplishment. I want to use this opportunity to express the tremendous thanks of the family to the party for what they did to their father. I think above anything, we successfully buried our National Chairman in Baba II,” the First Vice Chair said in his opening remarks. A balance sheet on the expenditure at the funeral vis-à-vis the over FCFA 14 million contributed by party members to support expenses, were presented to NEC.
SDF Chairmanship
A new National Chairman will be elected at the October elective convention. At the moment, two candidates, Godden Ndenge Zama of the South West Region and Shewa David Damuel Jestel of the North West Region have made known their intensions through press conferences. Questioned whether he (Joshua Osih) will run for Chairmanship, he said, “I think at the time I will be running for Chairman, my ward and electoral district will be the first to know. But you will be informed appropriately.” He further explained that candidacies are not yet opened at the moment, at the level of the National Secretariat. “When they are opened, you all will know. But I think the deadline for the deposit of candidacies is September 24, 2023. At that time, you will know who is candidate or not,” he said in details. Going by his explanation, to be a candidate, you need to take and fill a form at your electoral district, pass the primaries at your electoral circumscription and at the region. After which, it will be presented at the investiture committee that validates candidacies. The committee will then meet and the retained list of candidates presented. &ldquo...
