78th UN General Assembly : President Biya’s Address Delivered

Development objectives and the security situation in the country are some of the key points in the speech that was read by External Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella, yesterday.

The address of the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, has been read at the 78th General Assembly of the United Nations ongoing in New York. It was read yesterday September 26, 2023 by External Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella, who also extended Cameroon’s warm congratulations to Dennis Francis, on his election to the presidency of the session. Deliberations at the session are holding under the theme, "Rebuilding trust and reviving global solidarity: accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals in peace, prosperity, progress for all.”
Holding at a time when geopolitical tensions and rivalries are increasing, jeopardizing peace, economic, social and cultural development in many countries, Minister Mbella Mbella highlighted efforts carried out by Cameroon to ensure peace and security, and attain its development goals. “On the security front, the fight against Boko Haram is actively continuing, together with the member countries of the Multinational Joint Task Force of the Lake Chad Basin Commission. The results of these efforts are already observable on the ground, although further efforts should be made. In the North-West and South-West Regions in particular, peace and stability are gradually returning, thanks to the diligent actions of the Government following the recommendations of the Major National Dialogue, despite episodic cases of violence or hostage-taking with ransom demands, orchestrated by the separatists,” partly reads the speech of the Head of State. The message adds that the effective implementation by the government, of the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development, as well as the operationalization of the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration centres, make it possible to envisage with serenity, the sustainable return of peace and stability, and the revival of economic and development activities in the two regions.
