Ministry Of Justice : Translators Solicit Terminology Unit

Translators at the Ministry of Justice at the end of a five-day terminology training workshop have prayed the authorities to create a terminology unit and transform the translation unit to a department. The plea is contained in a series of recommendations read at the close of the training workshop on October 6, 2023 and presided at, on behalf of the Minister of State, Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, Laurent Esso, by the Minister Delegate, Jean de Dieu Momo. Organising more training sessions (at least three in 2024), allocating a budget for the constant training of staff working on the translation of documents and reinforcing the capacities of newly recruited staff in the translation unit are other resolutions. The recommendations, as read by Sandrine Ossoko, seeks at ensuring that the translation of documents at the Ministry of Justice contains the appropriate terminologies. 
In his closing remark, Minister Jean de Dieu Momo said when a translator embarks on the translation of a document, he is supposed to use specific terminology that reflect the jargon of the profession or the field concerned. “The appropriate use of terminology helps to better convey a message or a concept. The complexity of changing times warrants specialised vocabulary, hence the training for translators at the Ministry of Justice,” he said. The Minister Delegate added that the five-day course is just a series of other trainings that will lead to the creation and sustenance of a terminology database in the justice sector.
