Bamenda : Celebrations In Hope Of Brighter Future

The 41st anniversary of President Paul Biya’s accession to power was celebrated at the Congress Hall in Bamenda on November 6, 2023.
History was made in Bamenda on November 6, 2023 as members of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) defied the Monday ghost town imposed by armed separatists and filled the city’s Congress and its surrounding to celebrate the 41st anniversary of President Paul Biya’s accession to power. This was historic considering that since the start of the socio-political and security crisis in the North West and South West Regions, such as massive turn out with scores of dances groups has never been seen during the said celebration. The occasion was also memorable as Ambe Peter, a former Social Democratic Front (SDF) senior official and former municipal Councillor from Bafut resigned from the SDF and the leader of CPDM Central Committee Regional Permanent Delegation to the North West, Philemon Yang officially welcomed him to the CPDM.
Members of President Paul Biya’s ruling CPDM celebrated his achievements in power with hope. The party’s leader in the North West told the members, they have the opportunity to shape their future and assured them that, “Do not be afraid. Our future is bright. Nobody, even those who are not yet born will take away our future from us.” He said they were celebrating elegantly their past and future. He drew inspiration from the Circular Letter of the Secretary General of the Central Committee Jean Nkuete that called CPDM members and supporters to strengthen vigilance and rekindle the flame of militancy behind the party’s National President Paul Biya. He cited achievements they were celebrating to include the advancement in the country’s democracy through institutions created, improved business climate for the management of public affairs, significant progress in health, sports and education, development projects and strengthening of Cameroon’s image at home and abroad.
