Mamfe : Terrorists Massacre Over 20 In Egbekaw

Over 10 houses were set ablaze which burnt to ashes many beyond recognition. Authorities say investigations are ongoing to uncover perpetrators and bring them to book.
Mamfe Town in Manyu Division in the South West on Monday November 6, 2023 witnessed a reign of terror on peaceful denizens in Egbekaw village. Terrorists operating in the South West attacked and killed people in their sleep. Viang Mekala, Senior Divisional Officer for Manyu, explained that it was about 3:30 am when gunshots were heard. Element of security forces were deployed to the scene. The scale of destruction witnessed is beyond human imagination. Several people were massacred in cold blood. Robertson Tabechong, Mayor of Mamfe, put the provisional figure of those slaughtered at 25. Seven injured cases were registered and they were admitted in hospitals where they are receiving treatment. Many other persons were burnt beyond recognition. Over 10 houses were razed to ashes by the terrorists. Reasons for the barbarism on peaceful citizens remain unknown.
Viang Mekala called on the population to remain calm as elements of the defense and security forces are on the ground to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted. He reiterated to the population the importance of collaboration and giving information to the defense and security forces. On behalf of the government, he expressed compassion to the bereaved families.
