Bilingualism, Multiculturalism : Importance Highlighted In London

A member of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism, Benjamin Mutanga Itoe has drilled the staff of the Cameroon High Commission in London on the importance and necessity of promoting the use of English and French as the official languages of Cameroon. The former Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals was speaking at the Cameroon High Commission during a two-dav sensitisation workshop that brought together the High Commissioner of Cameroon to the United Kingdom, Albert Njoteh Fotabong and the staff of the High Commission.
Welcoming the member of the NCPBM. the High Commissioner said the initiative to visit, monitor and evaluate the use of Cameroon's two official languages at the Cameroon diplomatic mission in London was laudable as it is aimed at making President Paul Biya's vision of a united, peaceful and harmonious Cameroon a reality. He added that the message and mission of the former member of government was of great importance to the High Commission and to all Cameroonians living in the United Kingdom.
The NCPBM member then spelt out his mission to the United Kingdom as being to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the national policy on the promotion of official languages. He noted that the activity which is the first of its kind is being carried simultaneously in seven different countries. He drew the attention of workshop participants to the legal instruments put in place over the years to guide the use of the English and French as Cameroon’s official languages.
