A ceremony in memory of security forces killed since the outbreak of the crisis took place on Friday, December 22, 2023.
A ceremony to honour fallen soldiers, gendarmes and police officers killed since the beginning of the crisis in the North West Region took place on Friday, December 22, 2023 at the esplanade of the 5th Joint Military Region in Bamenda.
Speaking during the memorial, the Commander of the 5th Joint military Region, Brigadier General Bouba Dobekreo saluted the courage of the fallen soldiers to have made the supreme sacrifice to protect the nation. He said the mission to fight against secessionists was complex and difficult but will continue with determination and professionalism so as ‘to permit terrorists not to jeopardise our security’. He promised that the military will continue working with administrative, political and traditional authorities within the respect for human rights until peace is restored to the Region.
The ceremony took place in two phases. First were military honours to the fallen soldiers characterised by a silent procession with three wreathes; one for the military, the second for the gendarmerie and the third for the police.
