January 8, 2024 celebrated the 112th Anniversary of its establishment. As early as 7 pm local time, thousands of party members and supporters converged on Mbombela Stadium in the Mpumalanga Province where President Cyril Ramaphosa, also the head of ANC, delivered his annual address outlining the party’s programme for the year. Speaking during the event, President Cyril Ramaphosa said, “ANC supporters must celebrate the democratic advances, and achievements gained over the past 30 years in power.” He added that, “the January 8 celebration is a period to reflect on the ANC’s performance and successes such as more access to health services, basic education and housing.”
President Ramaphosa who is seeking a second term after coming to power in 2019, succeeding Jacob Zuma, also used the party celebration to provide a roadmap for the political year ahead of coming Presidential election expected to be the most highly contested in the country's democratic history. He said the ANC would launch its official elections manifesto next month, which would outline the party's aims for the next five years. He acknowledged the government's failings and reversals on service delivery. The President said, in 2024 the country will continue to rely on the youth to reimagine the future, we will focus on working together with all sectors of society, to accelerate the reconstruction of our economy, deliver quality basic services and infrastructure, renew the ANC and society, fight crime and corruption, rejuvenate our nation and contribute towards a better Africa and world,” he said.
