Both nations meet today January 24, 2024 in their last group E game at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo.
Before the kick-off of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Tunisia was tipped one of the favourites to top group E or better still even pick an early qualification ticket for the knock-out stages. But as upsets have been the order of the day, the Carthage Eagles, after two group matches, sit bottom with one point putting their fate on a lifeline as they meet South Africa today January 24, 2024 at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo. Even modest expectations were not met by Tunisia's opening act as they got a shock defeat to tournament underdogs Namibia. A draw against Mali offered a mere spark of hope, but it ultimately was not enough. Now, anything less than three points against Bafana Bafana will send them packing.
Their opponents, South Africa, have not exactly set the tournament ablaze, but their 4-0 demolition of Namibia injected a much-needed dose of confidence. Led by Percy Tau’s early penalty and Zwane’s brace, Bafana Bafana looked resolute and dangerous. However, complacency could prove costly.
