Sensitisation : Commission Multiplies Efforts

The National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism has been redoubling efforts to ensure the effective implementation of the bilingualism policy.

The National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism created by Presidential Decree No. 2017/013 of 23 January 2017 has been making frantic efforts to monitor the healthy implementation of Article 1 (3) of the Constitution of Cameroon on the equal status English and French as the two official language of the country.
Members of the Commission whose Chairperson is Peter Mafany Musonge have been visiting both public and private institutions to ensure the effective implementation of the country’s bilingualism policy. At the level of the political capital, they had been to Ministries to verify whether documents, sign posts are in the two official languages. They have also been verifying whether users of the services are served using the two official languages. Besides Ministries, members of the Commission have also been visiting public and semi-public institutions to emphasize the need for the use of English and French as languages of equal status in their daily activities.
The members of the Commission have not only limited their actions in the political capital Yaounde but have also undertaken field inspection visits to other regions in Cameroon.
