Civil Status Documents : PIC Reiterates Cost-free Production

The free of charge issuing of civil status documents has been reiterated by the Public Independent Conciliator for the South West Region, Motaze Telelen Dorothy Atabong. This was on Wednesday February 28, 2024, in Limbe in a gathering made of up of Mayors, Council head of services and bureau heads in civil status, hygiene and sanitation, town planning, and Municipal Police. Motaze Telelen said they have been receiving complaints from users that they (the users) are asked huge sums of money for the issuance of birth, death, and marriage certificates. “All these documents are free of charges. Civil status registers and clerks should stop collecting money from users,” she insisted. 
South West BUNEC Regional Chief, Ndzerem Walter Yuyun, explained to the civil status clerks how the various civil status documents are filled. Indications were made on what should be done in an event of an error. Parents were called upon to ensure that their children’s birth certificates are declared within 90 days. Failure to do that, they will need a court judgment before proceeding with establishing of a birth certificate. The court judgment will cost them some money.
