National Assembly : Permanent Bureau Elected

The twenty-three-man bureau with Cavaye Yeguie Djibril as House Speaker was voted in a plenary sitting on March 22, 2024 and has legislators from five political parties.
Members of the permanent bureau of the National Assembly have been voted. The 23-man bureau was voted on March 22, 2024 during a plenary sitting which the eldest member of the House, Hon Laurentine Koa Mfegue as head of the provisional bureau began chairing and the House Speaker-elect, Hon Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, chaired the voting process of other bureau members. This is in accordance with Section 17(3) of the Standing Orders of the National Assembly. The bureau shall thus pilot the affairs of the law-making institution for the 2024 legislative year.
The election began with that of the House Speaker, a position which had one candidacy; Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril of the CPDM, proposed by the Chief Whip of the CPDM Parliamentary Group, Hon. Roger Melingui. A total of 156 ballots were cast with Cavaye Yeguie Djibril being voted House Speaker as he had 143 votes in his favour. There were 13 null ballots. In accordance with Section 58(1) of the internal regulations of the CPDM, the Chief Whip of the Parliamentary Group proposed Hon. Hilarion Etong for the position of Senior Deputy Speaker. He was the lone candidate. He recorded 141 votes out of the 155 total votes cast, with 14 null ballots. The aforementioned positions had one candidate each because there is no other parliamentary group in the House, whom the Standing Orders give the right to the proposition of a candidate on the ticket of their party.
Upon his election as House Speaker, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril expressed gratitude to the National Chairman of the CPDM, President Paul Biya for having validated his candidacy.
