Senate : Institution Pledges Enhancing Democracy

Senate President, Marcel Niat Njifenji while closing the plenary sitting of the House yesterday also called on Senators to begin preparations for budget orientation debates for the June session.
Curtains of the March session of Parliament have dropped at the Senate with the closing plenary sitting being presided at, yesterday April 3, 2024 by its President, Marcel Niat Njifenji, in the presence of members of government, led by the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute and some representatives of the diplomatic corps.
In his closing statement, the Senate President noted that the institution is a peaceful assembly and will continue to work in the promotion of democratic values in Cameroon. “In its contribution to the life of Cameroon’s democracy, the Senate has the ambition to remain a peaceful Assembly in which proposal, debates and oppositions are made with all dignity and respect for others and particularly for the interest of the Cameroonian people. Here in our plenary hall, in your territories and in your daily lives, I call on you to participate in this collective ambition,” Marcel Niat Njifenji stated. Following his re-election at the helm of the institution on March 22, 2024, the Senate President noted that after the election of the bureau and the putting in place of General Committees, they unfortunately ran out of time of carrying out their duties as concern the voting of laws and the control of government action. “This leaves us with a very busy agenda for the June session, during which the Budget Orientation Debate will also be held as part of the preparation of the 2025 Finance Bill,” he explained. He also used the opportunity to express his gratitude to Senators for his re-election, pledging to continue, with the support of Senators, to build a Senate that is resolutely focused on finding answer...
