Creation of HTTC Buea : Joy Grips South West Region

Many youths say it remains a very important institution for the region.

A decree of the President of the Republic created the Higher Teachers’ Training College (HTTC) in the University of Buea in the South West Region last 24 May, 2024.
The new creation comes 31 years after the inception of the University of Buea in the 1992-93 academic year. The HTTC follows suit after its sister Higher Technical Teachers Training College was created many years ago and located in Kumba. The advent of the Higher Teachers Training College for general education has been greeted with ecstasy in the South West Region. Hitherto, all Secondary and General Education aspirants were obliged to go out of the Region to seek for their professional certification.
Now that the Head of State has found a solution for aspirant teachers’ plight in the region, the youth have come out in one voice to express their joy to the Head of State in a peaceful and appreciative march. About half a thousand happy youths marched to the South West Governor’s office yard 28 May, 2024. In marching steps, they carried flags, Head of State’s portrait, and a sealed letter, which they handed to Governor Bernard Okalia. He received his circumstantial visitors in his office yard and promised to hand the Letter faithfully to the Head of State. “I congratulate the Youths of the South West for being appreciative of the Head of State’s gesture”, he said.  The Governor further urged the youths to go back as messengers of peace to their brothers who are loitering in the bushes with arms to return home and make use of the facilities offered by the Head of State.
