You have participated in the official celebration of the 50th anniversary of Cameroon Tribune. What is your appreciation of the event and the newspaper itself?
It is really a privilege to be here. I am from Nairobi, Kenya and this is my first time in Cameroon. It is really interesting to see a newspaper that is celebrating golden jubilee. Personally, I work for a newspaper that is a hundred years old in Kenya. Therefore, this is quite inspiring to see other publications around the African continent that have stayed the course over the years and reached this point where they are celebrating a golden jubilee. The celebrations of the golden jubilee of Cameroon Tribune with an official ceremony on July 1, 2024 have been quite comprehensive and inspiring. It is a mixture of culture and tradition, just an appreciation of what Cameroon Tribune has made over 50 years. I was thrilled with the dance that exhibited the culture of Cameroon. It was an interesting watch and to see how culture is being displayed in all its honour and pride.
You have seen the picture evolution of the newspaper. What do you have to say about the evolution of Cameroon Tribune?
The evolution of the newspaper has definitely followed how communication has evolved around the world since newspapers were first published some 500 years ago. There has been a continuous evolution, first on how people consume news, but also the evolution of technology that is used to collect, package and deliver news to the consumers. Right from the stethoscopes, the manual process, the use of typewriters to the coming of computers and all the way to the current state, where most of the news production is automated, and therefore giving Journalists a most easier time to produce publications. It hasn’t been really a surprising thing because as a media practitioner myself, I have seen how communication has evolved over time and what the results of that evolution have been....
