Constitutional Council : Florence Arrey Takes Oath Of Office

The lone female of the 11-man judicial institution was sworn-in yesterday July 2, 2024 before Parliament in Congress.
In accordance to Article 5(1) of the Constitution and Article 16 of the Standing Orders of Parliament in Congress, Justice Florence Arrey Rita, appointed member of the Constitutional Council by the President of the Republic on January 18, 2024 for a six-year mandate, has taken her off of office. The fourth session of Parliament in Congress met yesterday July 2, 2024 for the swearing in ceremony of the lone lady of the 11-man judicial institution, who for reasons beyond her control could not take the oath of office alongside the 10 others last April 2, 2024. It was chaired by the Speaker of the National Assembly, President of the bureau of Parliament in Congress, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, in the presence of the Senate President, Marcel Niat Njifenji, Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute, the President of the Constitutional Council, Clement Atangana, the diplomatic corps and other personalities.
Indeed, the provisions of Article 3(1) of the April 21, 2004 law that establishes the status of the members of the Constitutional Council stipulates that the members shall take an oath of office before Parliament in Congress before assuming their duties. This explains why Justice Florence Arrey Rita while placing her left hand on the Constitution and the right hand lifted up, before the national flag is sworn-in. She clearly pledged “I swear that I will faithfully and diligently discharge my duties in an impartial manner, in accordance with the Constitution, uphold the confidentially of deliberations and votes, not to take any public position, not to give any consultation on matters within the competence of the Council.”
