Presidential Reconstruction Plan : North West Women Economically Empowered

The United Nations Development Programme trained and equipped some 30 young women to invest in the pastry sector.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has impacted the livelihoods of some 30 young women selected from eight council areas in the North West Region with start-ups. The practical training took place in Bamenda recently and for three days. The beneficiaries were trained and equipped with life changing skills in pastry making including baking, decorating, and packaging. This move by the United Nations Development Programme falls in line with the Presidential Plan for Reconstruction and Development of the security crisis affected North West and South West Regions. It was an opportunity for these young women to grab skills in pastry making and gain lessons on business management, financial planning and marketing. Alembom Catherine, one of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude after the training session and said her life and that of others will never be the same. "I came here very empty as far as baking and even frying of some basic pastries was concern. But I can have assured you that I am leaving this place sufficiently equipped."
The beneficiaries after being adequately equipped with skills, were handed start-ups, each including cookers with ovens, mixers, creaming machine, baking pans, cupboards, wheat, potatoes and cassava flour, oils, cartoons of sugar, and a lot more to continue the process back in their various communities. Eight community-based monitors were equally trained to do the follow-up of the beneficiaries and report the progress in the field.
