North West : Steady Reconstruction Pace

Government has been making strides in collaboration with its implementing partner, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), to reconstruct and bring back normalcy.

The Prime Minister, Head of Government Joseph Dion Ngute has signed Order No. 075 /CAB/PM of 30 July 2024 on the reorganization of the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North West and South West Regions. The plan with mission to contribute to the mobilization of funding and the coordination of interventions in favour of the reconstruction and development of the two regions devastated by the ongoing socio-political and security crisis has been making strides on the field despite some challenges.
In the North West Region for some time now, officials say, there has been low-keyed information dissemination on the work of the plan for security reasons.  With regards to projects, just this July 17-19, 2024, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) government’s implementing partner of the plan trained and supported 30 female youth starts up involved in pastry drawn from eight council areas of the North West Region. This is just a tip of the iceberg of actions taking places on the field.
When the President of the Steering Committee of the Presidential Reconstruction Plan, Minister, Director of the Prime Minister Cabinet, Balungeli Confiance Ebune paid an evaluation visit to the North West Region on March 28-29, 2023, there were some revelations as to the level and rate of execution of the plan in the region. It was disclosed that with regard to the pillar on strengthening social cohesion, there had already been the reconstruction and equipment of four Women’s centres, organization of seven socio-cultural events, support of four media houses and farmers/graziers dialogue platforms set up.
