64th Anniversary of Gabon’s Independence : Cameroon Participates In Celebrations

External Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella represented the Head of State in the colourful ceremony that took place on August 17, 2024 in Libreville.

In the course of commemorative activities marking the 64th anniversary of the independence of Gabon, Cameroon, her neighbouring country and brother in bilateral relations, participated at the ceremony which took place on August 17, 2024 in Libreville. External Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella, personal representative of the Head of State, represented Cameroon at the important historic event. Besides participating at the commemorative activities, Minister Mbella Mbella had exchanges with the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of Sub-Regional Integration and Gabonese Abroad, Michel Régis Onanga Ndiaye, who was equally at the airport to welcome Cameroon’s Minister upon his arrival. Minister Mbella Mbella also met with the Cameroonian community resident in the now member of the Commonwealth country. 
Bordered by land, Cameroon and Gabon are two countries that have age-old relations and cooperate in several domains to enhance these ties. Both members of the Commonwealth (Gabon joined the Gentlemen’s Club in June 2022 as the 55th member), the two nations constantly meet in political consultation meetings to enhance their practices of democracy, good governance and the rule of law. Still at the political level, there have been high-level visits of the personalities of either States. On December 6, 2023, the President of the Transition, President of Gabonese Republic, Brigadier General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, was in Cameroon for an official visit, where he was received in audience by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya at the Unity Palace.
