Monkey Pox Epidemiological Situation : 96 Cumulative Suspected Cases Recorded

Statistics indicate that nine out of the 10 Regions in the county have notified suspected cases, with six tested positive of the virus.

Statistics from the Public Health Emergency Operation Coordination Centre (PHEOCC) in Yaounde, indicate that as of October 4, 2024, Cameroon had registered 96 suspected cases of Monkey Pox (Mpox) in the country. Suspected cases of the viral Zoonotic disease seem to increase in the country barely two months (August 13) after Mpox, previously known as Monkey Pox, was declared a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organisation (W.H.O). After August 2024, when W.H.O declared Mpox a public health emergency of international concern in Cameroon, Dr Nadia Jacqueline Mandeng, a Field Epidemiologist/Internist and Head of Operations Section of Mpox Incident Management System at the PHEOCC says the country has recorded 45 new suspected cases of Mpox, including one confirmed positive case of Clade II. 
Information further indicate that in Cameroon, the first human and animal epidemics were discovered in 1979. Medical sources say the current epidemic is higher than the Monkey Pox epidemic observed over the last 60 years in the country. The epidemiological situation of Mpox from PHEOCC shows a cumulative total of 96 notified suspected cases, a cumulative total of six confirmed cases and cumulative total of two deaths from January 1 to October 4, 2024.
