Crises Regions : The Path To Reconstruction

The Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North West, South West and Far North Regions was put in place in 2020 to improve the living conditions of the population and consolidate national unity and social cohesion.

Cameroon has within the past decade faced several crises in parts of the country including the socio-political crisis in the English-speaking North West and South West Regions, the Boko Haram insurgency in the Far North Region as well as humanitarian crisis. These crises in the three regions took a violent twist as separatist fighters in the North West and South West Regions took up arms against the State. President Paul Biya in his clairvoyant leadership convened a Major National Dialogue on September 30 to October 4, 2019 to proffer solutions to the crises. Going by the recent presentation and review of the status of implementation of the PPRD in the South West from 2020 to 2024, a total of 243 projects have been executed so far with an amount of FCFA 5,944,102,748. The projects range from strengthening social cohesion, rehabilitation of basic infrastructure, and local economic revitalization. The plan made notable strides in fostering social cohesion through; the issuance of 800 lost documents, 59 socio-cultural events, reconstruction of 11 community based women empowerment centres. Significant contributions to improve basic infrastructure were also made among them; the reconstruction of 79 schools, 37 health facilities and 37 water point...
