2025 Presidential Election : Political Parties To Curb Hate Speech

The Women International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) Cameroon recently organised a meeting with political leaders in Douala.

As part of its project to promote social cohesion by combating hate speech and preventing political violence, the Women International League for Peace and Freedom WILPF Cameroon organized a meeting with political leaders on Thursday, November 14, to brainstorm on the production of the guide "Politicians and Hate Speech: Model Guidelines to Prevent Hate Speech in Political Parties". The one-day workshop was a moment for the political party leaders present to look for ways to combat hate speech within their party circles, especially in light of the 2025 presidential election. During the workshop, the young political party representatives agreed that hate speech is dangerous for development and can lead to violence.
For Dr. Marcelle Simo, representative of the CPDM party, there can be no meaningful development if there is no peace. She added that peace is the possible way out. She said it is incumbent on political party leaders to define internal strategies to fight against hate speech. Meanwhile, the President of the Littoral National Youth Council, Leonel Ntouba, said it was important for young people in politics to be involved in decision-making. He added that most young people within political parties play a passive role and it is high time they get on board. For him, hate speech is real and all hands should be on deck to fight the social ill.
