Slow Business : Commercial Activities On Nose Dive

The usual hustle and bustle in the economic capital has reduced forcing most traders to go on holiday.

 

Since the second day of January 2025, the streets of Douala are less busy, the usual traffic has reduced, some shops are closed as business is lull thus forcing most shop owners to go on break. It is evident that after the heavy shopping and festivities, most of the city dwellers are also on a break as they do their best to manage the available finances while waiting for the next payout.
 During a stop along Marche Douche, it revealed a street with less traffic and less affluence, the shops were less populated and some shopkeepers were seen in groups discussing current events in the country.  A shopkeeper in marche douche told CT that business was very slow at the moment and that he was not selling up to 30,000 CFA per day. He said that during this period when business is slow, he takes the opportunity to clean and organize his store. For him, it was the best time to take stock of sales during the holiday season. "For now, I have to take out Christmas items and put in new ones”, he said. He was optimistic that things would return to normal by the month of February.
