Cameroon-Nigeria Borders:Gov’t Assures Steady Development

External Relations Minister explained measures taken by government for the development of the borders during a question and answer plenary at the Senate.

The Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella has detailed government measures in the Cameroon-Nigeria border demarcation and the development agenda of the borderline being carried out by the State. He was responding to a question of Senator Jean Baptiste Bacusda on the rate of work on the boundary demarcation exercise and whether the development of the area is on course during a question and answer plenary sitting at the Senate, chaired by its President, Marcel Niat Njifenji.
Minister Mbella Mbella in his response to Senators indicated that government has embarked on different discussions through the instructions of President of the Republic, Paul Biya, with different neighbours given that boundary demarcation is regulated by different conventions. He said Cameroon-Nigeria boundary demarcation has not been done entirely. This, he explained, is partially attributed to insecurity with Boko Haram attacks as a major stumbling block. Security has however been reinforced especially with the setting up the Lake Chad Basin Commission Multinational Joint Task Force for the fight against Boko Haram.
