Decentralization : Completing The Process

The enactment of the Law to Institute   the General Code of Regional and Local Authorities in December 2019, the effective putting in place of the Regional Councils and other legislation on financing  the decentralization process have created  an indelible equitable development impact in all the nooks and crannies of Cameroon. Decentralization is indeed a catalyst of local development with the beneficiary populations taking ownership of the projects considering that their selection often  respects the bottom-top approach.  As President Paul Biya takes up his eighth consecutive mandate at the helm of State, much is expected to be done by government and the different stakeholders to complete the decentralization process.
The North West Regional Delegate of the Ministry of Decentralization and Local Development, Paul Tamanjong told Cameroon Tribune that for the decentralisation process to be compete in Cameroon  it has to be considered from a tripartite angle which are the  Head of State, the Government and the main  stakeholders of Regional and Local Authorities.  “The Head of State,  promised during his election campaign that he will sign the regulatory instrument on the Local Public Service where we expect more mobility of Regional and Local  Authorities  personnel,” Paul Tamanjong said. This  would also trigger   the mobility of State workers and a resolution of the  problem of salary  arrears and social contributions of the said workers thereby completing a full career cycle for Regional and Council workers that is often plagued by non payment in some of these structures.
